The Learners Collective (TLC) is proud to welcome King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls as our newest partner in our TLC School Leadership Programme. Through TLC’s unique blend of academic tutoring and personal-professional mentoring, we're connecting students with our Scholars – inspiring near-peer role models from world-leading universities – to boost grades, build life skills and develop the character to flourish – in school, exams and beyond. Launched in January 2025, KEVI Handsworth School for Girls and TLC will work together to support their Year 11 and Year 13 students through the TLC School Leadership Programme. This exciting initiative will empower students though high-quality, bespoke learning that goes beyond traditional academic tuition. Alongside raising their grades, the Programme develops students’ life skills, character, and self-belief – equipping them to excel, lead and succeed.
Founder of TLC, Rory G stated: “Take it from me: young people need more than simply good grades to succeed in the modern world – they need life skills, character development and mentorship to help guide the way. And with 87% of our pupils not having a single role model, TLC is at the forefront of the fight to ensure students of all backgrounds have the skills, character and confidence to dream, achieve, and succeed as the next generation of changemakers.”
Students will be guided through a unique blend of academic tutoring and personal-professional mentoring by our Scholars - near-peer role models who have each overcome underestimation to achieve top grades, defy the odds and attend world-leading universities. Students will also benefit from our partnerships with Wadham College, Oxford University and LocalGlobe VC – equipping them with the network, insights and support to expand their horizons.
Mr David Goodwin, Headteacher at KEVI Handsworth School for Girls said:
“I’m delighted that KEVI Handsworth School for Girls has partnered with TLC. Since its inception, I’ve enjoyed a close working relationship with the organisation, which offers a truly unique blend of tutoring and mentoring: providing secondary school students with inspiring, near-peer role models who can genuine insight, motivation and guidance."
He added:
"Role models play a central role in shaping a young person’s aspirations, particularly those who are traditionally underrepresented. I firmly believe that ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’. TLC’s Scholars bring not only a track record of academic success but lived experience of overcoming adversity in a strive for excellence – helping our students unlock their potential as they prepare for their GCSEs, A-Levels and beyond. As TLC continues to grow and evolve, I look forward to KEVIHS students benefit from any array of mentoring and networking opportunities facilitated by their wonderful team.”
